MTB 202: Technical Riding Foundations & Progressions

This intermediate course is designed for riders who are eager to build a solid foundation for more technical skills and learn the progressions needed to keep that foundation growing. Students can expect to cover a vast array of skills that are needed to successfully ride technical trails (blue and some black rated) in the safety of a controlled environment. Along with teaching you the foundations for a variety of necessary skills, your coach(es) will offer progressive successions for many skills as well. You can also expect some “fun” homework so you can continue building and refining your skills well after the session ends.

 Prerequisites for this class: 

    • A desire to grow and refine your skills for riding mountain bikes

    • MTB 201 or equivalent / the ability to perform the skills listed in MTB 201 

    • You can ride most or all of the green-rated trails you encounter

    • You are starting to feel comfortable riding some/most blue rated trails

  • Duration: 3 - 3.5 hrs, depending on class size

  • Cost: $165 

  • Location: Exact meeting location will be sent upon registering but you can expect one of Bellingham’s beautiful local parks

MTB 202 will cover topics like these:

  • Quick review of MTB 201 skills

  • Intro to high speed cornering (flat & berms)

  • Trackstands and slow speed skills

  • Tight turns and switchbacks

  • Basic wheel lifts for getting over obstacles 8” tall or less (climbing and descending, fast and slow)
