In this introductory course, designed for riders who are new to the sport, students can expect to learn a foundation for everything they need to prepare themselves for riding their mountain bike off-road. We offer many skills, drills, and tips in a fun and safe environment in hopes that your mountain bike journey starts on the right track. You can also expect some “fun” homework so you can continue building and refining your skills well after the session ends. 

  • Prerequisites for this class: A desire to try the sport of mountain biking

  • Duration: 3 - 3.5 hrs, depending on class size (>2 students but <7)

  • Cost: $165 

  • Location: Exact meeting location will be sent upon registering but you can expect one of Bellingham’s beautiful local parks

  MTB 101 will cover topics like these: 

  • Bike set-up and safety check

  • Using your bike’s controllers (brakes, shifters, seatposts)

  • Mounting and dismounting efficiently and safely

  • Basic Body Positioning

  • Climbing and descending skills for green-level trails (average or 5% grade trails, max 15% grade)

  • Techniques for finding balance and control on off-road surfaces around 36” wide and the occasional bridge
